The Message Index

Meaningful moments matter most of all,

make each conversation count.

Period: 2023 Jan – Aug

Position held: Lead Artist-Researcher

Lay Summary:

The Message Index is a digital living inquiry, explored through web interactions, VR spaces, and message audio storytelling. Drawing from my own experiences of displacement, UX design, educational media, and creative technology to gather and reshape personal stories. In this collaborative, transmedia environment, everyday messages are embedded within immersive virtual space to co-create moments of transition and belonging.

This practice is both inquiry and art, as well as an invitation to linger with the ups and downs of migration and to reflect on how ordinary digital audio messages shape our sense of self and home .

LATEST PROJECT

This creative workshop is part of the funded doctoral research project Building Identity Through Stories (BITS). The project explores how transmedia storytelling (TS) can support students with learning differences as they transition into university and begin shaping their identity and sense of belonging.

The workshop brings together perspectives from art-based research and educational research. From a practice-based research perspective, TS is explored as a creative intervention that invites participants to express transition experiences across different media. At the same time, the workshop generates exploratory insights into how TS activities may help universities better understand students’ transition journeys and inform more inclusive approaches to student support.
